Wired

There's a stylish little piece about my Emergent Behavior series on the Wired website today. The author, Doug Beirend, did a really nice job of capturing the essence of what I'm doing with these images.

Two new pieces

Crumpled paper no. 1

Plates #3 walkaround

Here's a (slightly primitive) iphone walkaround of my latest piece, Plates #3:

PDN The Curator

I am very happy to report that I've won the "Installation/Still life" category in the "The Curator," Photo District News's annual fine art photography competition. The other winners are Greer Muldowney (Photo Essay/Reportage), Lindsay D'Addato (Nature/street photography), Bobby Davidson (Abstract/Mixed Media), Noah David Bau (Portraits/nudes) and Jeremy Underwood (Student work). Here's the online gallery, as well as some snaps from the spread in the PDN's July issue.

Tricycle magazine

I must confess I'd never looked at Tricycle (The Buddhist Review) until they featured my work in their Summer issue (accompanying an excellent essay by Henry Shukman). What a good looking magazine. Bill Armstrong is in this issue too, as is Sarah Palmer, whose work I like a lot.

Glow sticks #2 video

Here's a little video I shot of the actual piece. Watch for the 13 second mark, when I step in a hole and nearly hit the deck.

Glow Sticks #2

Here's my newest piece, Glow sticks #2. It's shot in Stone Ridge, NY, and modeled after the mating swarms of midges, mosquitos and gnats, in which the males cluster in the middle, and the females buzz through from the margins, hoping to emerge with a new friend.

Sixth Finch

There is some exceptional poetry in the winter issue of Sixth Finch. Also a curious photo of swarming post-it notes that's worth checking out.
